In seventh grade, Hanna, Spencer, Emily, and Aria were best friends with the fabulous Ali - until she mysteriously disappeared. Now freshmen in high school, the four girls are no longer friends, and are knee deep in their own problems, when suddenly they all begin receiving threatening messages from someone named "A" who seems to know every disturbing secret the girls have...and is going to tell them to the world.
Morality
Characters lie (hence the title), steal, keep secrets, trick each other, gossip, cheat, and are altogether not model characters. Morals and virtues are not exactly the highlight of the story.
Spiritual Content
Ali tries to hypnotize her friends.
Violence
People suspect Ali was murdered and mention is made of someone being shot, but not in any detail.
Drug and Alcohol Content
People below the legal age for drinking alcohol drink beer and wine and there are mentions of drunkenness. Characters also smoke a lot.
Sexual Content
This is another big con to this book. Characters kiss a lot, make out, sleep together, and the like. Additionally, one character is lesbian. All these things feature heavily and are very explicit.
Crude or Profane Language or Content
B****, a**, h***, f***, s*** and probably any other bad word you can think of are mentioned, along with God's name used in vain, and mention of inappropriate body parts.
Conclusion
An interesting book, but with way too much sexual and alcoholic content, along with bad language - issues, in fact, on just about every level. This is made even worse (if possible) by the fact that it is marketed to young adult readers and features young adult main characters. Despite the engaging premise, I would definitely not recommend this book to anyone.
