It's a great book, and you aren't going to be able to wait to read the next one in the series!

Plot

Note: This book was co-authored by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi.

The Field Guide follows three siblings - Jared, Simon, and Mallory - as they arrive at the Spiderwick Estate with their mother to take up residence there. There they discover a brownie-faerie living in their house, and find a book that unleashes the secrets of faeries.

Morality

The sister wants to punch her brother, but never follows through, and there is a fairy in there house that can be mischievous, but also good.

Spiritual Content

There are fairies and other fantastical creatures.

Violence

The main character's sister hints at wanting to punch him, but never actually does it. There is also a part were two people are practicing sword fighting.

Drug and Alcohol Content

None.

Sexual Content

None.

Crude or Profane Language or Content

None.

Conclusion

A very fun read. I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a book that you won't want to put down: there are no dry spots, and it is a very easy read. However, some readers do find the old estate and the whole faerie-world rather dark, so it's not a good read for children who are easily affected by such content. Also, the violence does mount throughout the series.
