G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936)
Gilbert Keith Chesterton, a popular writer of books in a wide variety of genres, was born in Campden Hill, Kensington, London, on May 29, 1874. After attending St. Paul's School, he enrolled for degrees first at Slade School of Art, then at University College London, both without earning the degree; at this time he was not a believer and was interested in the occult, but 1922 he converted to Roman Catholicism, and many of his works deal with Christianity (including his most well-known work, "Orthodoxy"). At the age of twenty-four he became engaged to Frances Blogg, whom he married three years later. Chesterton wrote throughout his life, both fiction and nonfiction, and died on June 14, 1936, in his Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire home.
