The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

A fantabulous book, well written and exciting, but should be read with caution.

Plot

This novella goes along with the story of the Twilight saga, which I recommend you read first. The Short Life of Bree Tanner is told from the point of view of Bree, a character introduced in Eclipse. She tells her story as a newborn vampire in the army led by the vampiress set on killing Bela, known to her soldiers only as "her".

Morality

The vampires seem not to have a clear idea of what is good and what is bad. They find no problem in killing and feel they are superior to humans. Bree discovers that their army has been lied to about a great many things, including why they are to attack the Cullens.

Spiritual Content

The idea of vampires itself could be considered spiritual. Some vampires have extra powers such as mind-reading or the power to repel others.

Violence

Violence is a big con about this book, and there sure is a lot of it! Bree and the rest of the army are more traditional vampires compared to the Cullens. Bree hunts and drinks the blood of humans. Her coven takes down a whole ship of people. Though their hunts are not described in extreme detail, it can be disturbing for some readers.

Not only are there the violent eating habits of the vampires, but also their fights within the coven, which can be violent. Not to mention that Bree is in an army set on destroying the Cullens, so there is a large, though not descriptive, fight at the end.

[SPOILER]

As said in Eclipse, Bree is killed at the end, though in this book it is just implied. Bree's best friend is killed in a violent way.

Drug and Alcohol Content

There is some reference to drugs and smoking. Bree can tell if someone is on drugs by the purity of their blood.

Sexual Content

Bree and her friend Diego kiss once or twice. While spying on "her" and her co-leader Riley, Bree describes hearing the sound of them kissing. Near the end Edward holds Bella protectively in his arms.

Crude or Profane Language or Content

God's name may have been used in vain.

Conclusion

This was a very interesting book. It was cool to read about the battle and what happened before from Bree, an enemy's, point of view. From Eclipse, we know very little about her, so I found this incredibly exciting. But there is a lot of questionable content in this book, mostly violence.
